A water-repellent pen and ink used in watercolors

Ink and watercolor are a classic combination. Simple lines can give a watercolor work enough structure, as in Vincent Van Gogh's Fishing Boats on the Beach. Beatrix Potter used the powerful discolouring power of watercolours and a soft sense of colour to fill the Spaces between the lines in her illustration Peter Rabbit, and Albrecht Durer's The Green Meadows also contained a variety of raw materials.

Modern artists have many inks to choose from, but many people don't know how to choose a waterproof ink to use in watercolor paintings. Today I'd like to share with you a little caution.

Preferred needle hook pen

You can choose an ultrafine marker, which is suitable for all watercolor situations. Markers are usually made of water-resistant pigment base ink, which is very quick to paint and not easy to erase, and the pointed tip is good for drawing very thin edges. The colors are gorgeous and the details are delicate and beautiful.

waterproofness

In the watercolor painting on the line, waterproof is essential. Many artists look for ink that is waterproof or dissolved in water according to their own needs to achieve different effects. However, the ink that is still completely waterproof can depict complete lines without staining, ensuring the clarity of lines.Paper, whether thin or coated, will also affect the speed of the ink and water resistance.  Remember to experiment before using unused ones.

Fast drying

Sometimes the ink seems to have dried out, but if you paint it over and over again, it will still be a little dizzying. We recommend waiting 24 hours before applying watercolor to the top of the line to make sure you don't paint, but this can be difficult to do. So when setting, try to choose ink that dries quickly or paints faster.

Flexibility and nib shape

A dipping pen and a stylus can use the same pen to draw completely different lines, This line change gives a dynamic and special style. Both the highlighter and neutral pens have hard tips, so the line width is very uniform and easy to control. If you use this type of pen, it's best to have a variety of tip widths for different effects.

color selection

But the colored ink will make the lines lighter and more integrated with the painting as a whole, so as to better adjust the atmosphere in the work.

Portable c

Dipping pens can be confusing because you need an ink bottle. If you need to travel or paint in different places, it's best to use a tool that comes with your own ink, such as a pencil and brush. On the other hand, if you're working at one desk, it's less important.

Little knowledge of pens

gel pen

Designed for writing, but brightly colored and well suited to artistic creation. Simple to use, low price, enough for daily use, suitable for beginners to use in painting watercolor.

line drawing pen

The pencil is designed for fine marking. Best used for holding lines perpendicular to the surface of the paper or against a ruler. Most line pens come in a range of thicknesses and sizes.

Brush pen

If you're going for a more casual look, try a pen with a soft tip that can make dramatic changes in thickness. It also comes with inkand can be carried just as easily as a line and neutral pen.

Ink tip

The lines drawn with pen ink have more character. You can mix and match different pens and ink to get the style you like. Some pen inks have natural shades that add to the visual appeal of a painting.

It should be noted that most water-resistant pen inks use pigment particles, and if the ink stays dry for too long, it may clog the pen, so we recommend cleaning the pen once a month, especially if you plan to keep it out of use for a long time.

Most colors: pigment ink

Colored pen inks are always a little less waterproof than black ink, but Obertz's ink is surprisingly waterproof. 7 colors, each is rich in color, dries quickly, and is completely waterproof. It even comes with a gradient, which gives the picture a light and bright feel.

Dip in pen ink

If you want more control over the freedom of your painting, unmatched variation in thickness, and no portability, then a dipping pen is for you.  This pen is perfect for showing movement and change.Even better, use whatever ink you want, because there is no ink in the middle, so there is no risk of blocking the pen.

Dipping pen ink usually takes longer to dry than pen ink, partly because of its different composition and partly because dipping pen ink is more violent. You can use dip pen ink with the brush, but never put dip pen ink in the pen or the brush.

Calligraphy ink

Calligraphy ink is mostly made of ink, which is the oldest kind of black ink.The ink, which originated in China, is soluble in water but can also be concentrated into hard strips of stone, which can be ground and diluted with water.

Although ink can refer to all kinds of black ink, traditional black ink is mostly complex compounds. Most artists use liquid ink that is fast in the sun and does not fade and does not dissolve in water.
